Neighbors of The Nave: 3200 Spenard Road

“Even buildings deserve a comeback story.” That’s the message on a bright blue sign outside of 3200 Spenard Road today, and what a comeback story it is! Our neighbor to the north is getting a major facelift – with new studio apartment units and refreshed ground-floor commercial space.          

Local real estate and apartment rental company Eight Stars Enterprises bought the building in March and has been hard at work ever since. Upstairs, what were essentially dorm rooms are being converted into eight small studio apartments, Jesse Janssen, co-owner of Eight Stars Enterprises, told us. Rents will be in the range of $1,000/month, with tenants slated to start moving in July 1.   

Meanwhile, one or two small neighborhood businesses, to be announced, will take up the ground floor storefront.    

At 3200 Spenard, Janssen saw an opportunity to help with Anchorage’s housing challenges and fix up a worn-out building in a neighborhood he loves. 

“I hope people see the greater vision for Spenard and where it’s going,” Janssen said in a recent phone interview. “And all the other good things happening in that particular section of Spenard.”
