Neighbors of The Nave: Blaine’s Art

Above: The bulletin board at Blaine's Art says it all - Spenard is a happening place!

Founded in 1953, Blaine’s Art has been a fixture in Spenard from its early days at the Buckaroo Club, to its long tenure at what is now home to the House of Hobbies. The business has continually evolved, including the construction of its current building, under longtime owner Rene Haag. Now owned by Amanda Bennett, who joined their staff in 2015 and eventually purchased the store in 2023, Blaine’s Art remains committed to serving artists at every stage of their creative journey.

From its early beginnings at the Buckaroo Club location, to its current store on Photo Ave, Blaine’s Art has grown into a Spenard landmark for creatives at all levels.

The interior of Blaine’s Art on Photo Ave is vibrant and filled with work by local artists in Spenard.

At present, Blaine’s Art engages the local community through four annual open calls for art, allowing anyone to submit a single piece, an accessible alternative to traditional solo shows that require a large body of work. The store also offers beginner-to-advanced classes with local and visiting instructors, biweekly open studio sessions, and new critique opportunities. Through collaborations with neighboring businesses, participation in Spenard 2nd Saturday, and increased involvement in local community initiatives, Blaine’s Art is deepening its role as both an art supply store and a hub for creative connection in Spenard.

Chin'an, thank you to our neighbors who bring joy and positivity to the Spenard community. We appreciate your presence deeply.
