Meet our Art Camp Instructors

  • Graham Dane

Primary Art Instructor for Art Camp 2024

Graham Dane was born just west of London and studied Art and Art History at Oxford Brookes University (1984-87), an Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in Painting and Printmaking there concurrent with evening life-drawing classes at St Martin's School of Art, London (1990-91). In 2013 he was awarded a Masters in Art History from Birkbeck College.

For Graham, Abstract painting is the visual equivalence of music. Both use the same vocabulary: tone, harmony, composition, dissonance. We allow one to transport us via our ears into the beyond, to move us. We don’t ask what we "see" but how we feel. “My goal is to produce works where people don’t care what anything was/is because they’re so enveloped by them.”

Graham and his life partner Linda Infante Lyons were the founding Primary Art Instructors for the first-ever Art Camp at The Nave (previously known as Church of Love). Graham has continued to bring his creative expertise for each new Art Camp iteration here, and we feel truly lucky to have him with us in 2024!

She graduated from UAA and has chosen Anchorage as her home and has found a sense of belonging in the urban streets and birch forests. Blas is a poet, storyteller, educator, and community builder. Recently, Blas was the Storyteller in Residence at the Benny Benson High School, where she facilitated storytelling classes and performances with students. She is currently an Artist in Residence at the Anchorage Museum’s, SEED Lab, where she leads community conversations and writing workshops. With any age group, Blas strives to make students feel seen and heard and empowers them to be artists and have a voice. She brings a sense of joy and wonder to her teaching of poetry and storytelling.
